The bullfighting arena in Jerez de la Frontera is hosting traditional bullfights since 1894 and is still used in the present day. Along the side are panels honouring the bravest animals which have fought there over the years. What their fate was I do not know. Happy retirement? Slaughtered anyway? Probably the latter. The earliest plaque of honour I found dated from 1955, the most recent from 2014. I wanted to create a different take, emphasising the story of those noble animals more than the humans killing them. Since people are going to ask: My own opinion is a bit divided on this. On one hand I know that bullfighting is a very old tradition and I am all for old traditions. On the other hand it makes us who did not grow up in the culture at least deeply uneasy. I say no more.
